It was the first day of her senior year, and anyone would dream of this year to come, but Essie wasn't too eager about the summer ending. Maybe it was just her or something completely different, but she wished that the summer would have never ended. She had hanged out with her best friends, and Craig and Haley among the people that she did. Now she was at her locker, and she looked around a little bit awaiting one of her friends to stop by her locker, and do a schedule check to see if they had any of the same classes together.
She wore something simple; just a navy top and dark jeans. It wasn't too much of a big deal of what she ended up with, and a lot of the time she picked on what she wanted, because of the mood that she was in. In the past this was the day that she dreaded, and she started to remember her freshman year on the first day. She then met Craig Dice; the first real best friend ever. Only question was, was he more than that to her? Were they always meant to be just friends?

Craig found himself rushing out of bed, ten minutes later than he should have... what a way to start his senior year. It was lucky he never did anything with his hair, otherwise he proberly would never have got to school in time. He was dressed in a yellow collared shirt and dark jeans, looking quite fly for a white guy. His hair was left it's usual messy self. He grabbed the envelope next to the front door containing his schedule and stuff. He knew he'd missed the chance to walk to school with Essie, she was an early bird and Craig wasn't.
10 minutes later, he walked down the halls greeting those he hadn't seen throughout the holidays, a radiant smile dancing across his lips. He came to his locker, whch was convinently next to Essie's. "Hey best friend, how's things?" He turned the combinaion on his locker and opened it, whilst continuing the conversation.

"Hey there! I'm good what about yourself?" She asked as she opened up her own locker after she put the combnation in, and added the many items that she put in her locker very year. Pictures of the summer were added to the pictures of the three summers before the one that had just gone. Essie was the type that was on time to everything, and she was simply just raised that way, because her parents never missed a beat of anything. "You and Haley still going strong?" She always asked this question, and was open about almost everything with Craig even at school.
The halls of course were filled with other people chattering to their friends, and trying to figure out where their classes were so they wouldn't be late, because the teachers hated tardness. Like she was ever late anyways unless she had a pass and a good reason to be. She set some of her notebooks that she would need for the classes that she was going to first down, and gave Craig a small smile.

"Same as always really." It was true the two had only spoken the night before, but yea whatever it was polite to ask people how they were. Craig grinned at the pictures she began displaing in her locker, he wasn't the type of guy to do that. His locker was filled with junk except one small picture of him and Haley. Craig nodded in reply to the question that he seemed to be hearing from a number of people. "Yea, fine. So had Essie got her eye on anyone this year?" He nudged her playfully after shutting his locker. In all the time he'd known her, he didn't think he ever remebered her going on a date.
Craig wasn't in a hurry, he leant against his locker casually with his books in his bag. Nodding at passers by and such. He reomved his schedule from his bag and glanced down at it. "You ready to compare schedules yet?"

"Yup, same 'ld Craigo!" As always she said this whenever he answered back to the how are you doing question. She always had fun around Craig no matter if it was the first day of school or the last; it didn't matter. Why she had those pictures up very year ever since her Somphomore year was for good reason. She always liked remembering all of the good memories that she had, and not the bad ones.
"Of course I have an eye on someone! Why wouldn't I?" She said teasing him, and nudging him back a little bit, because he knew that she didn't really date all that much, although she had gotten her heart broken many times. With simple question about schedules she grabbed her's from one of her notebooks on the ground. "Yup, ready when you are mister." She said joking in part of her words of course.

He laughed lightly, he always forgot to change his reply whenevr he was talkig to her. It was strange how on the first period of every new year Craig wasn't broody at all. Nope, completely the opposite actually. But then after a lesson or two he slipped back into his usual self, that everybody was used too.
He looked between the two sheets and noticed that they didn't share as many classes as last year but still had a few together. "Well, not as many as last year but enough! I'll see you 2nd period for advanced literature this morning, and not for gym because your not a dude!... Hopefully!" He raised one eyebrow at her cheekily.

She shook her head a little bit after she was done laughing since she always seemed to have fun even when Craig was broody he brought out the better side of her, and not the side that stopped her from dating anyone. It seemed that if Craig was always there for her nothing else would really matter all that much except the fact that she like one of her best friends which just happened to be dating another one of her best friends.
She shrugged a little bit, and it wasn't like they wouldn't see each other at the locker, or that Craig wouldn't try to use her homework to get away with an English paper that he didn't bother to write even though he was a very good writer. "I know I am not a dude! So they better not do that to me!" She said laughing at the thought of it, knowing that she would have probably have been way confused.

His eyes traveled down the hallway in search of Haley but she was yet to appear, then he trailed back to look at Essie. Then he remembered tha essay he hadn't writted. he smiled at her sweetly, batting his eyelids. "hey Essie, have you done that English assignment?" Yea he could write pretty well, but he'd just been...uhh...busy. Yea that's it, busy!
He smiled, "Well i damn hope your not a dude. Otherwise you'll make me even more confused about the female mind than I already am!" he scracted his blonde hair and had a quizzical expression across his face.

She couldn't help but to laugh at the act that Craig had already started up to see her essay she had completed and she sighed rolling her eyes playfully. He always seemed to never have time to do the essays no matter how hard he seemed to try to find the time; which he really didn't try knowing him. "Oh why must I always be the one saving you?" She said this as if she was slightly annoyed when you could tell that she really wasn't at all.
"Oh, we can get very confusing without even needing to be a dude sir." Of course she wasd joking once again about what he said about the whole confusion of a girl. He would be even more confused if he knew that truth about Essie's feelings probably so she would just not tell him about that for now.

He grinned smugly. "Because if I asked Hales for some help she'd give me some big lecture on how i should be taking care of my studies now It's senior year and all this crap. She is my little tutor girl remember!" then he added in quickly, "Just don't telll her I said that, deal?" he placed his little finger out for a pinky pack. A tradition he'd used since hhis early childhood.
Twitching his left eyebrow up he gave her a weird look. "You know Essie Anderson, your proberly the weirest girl I know!" He meant it in a pleasent way of course, but he always enjoy teasing her.

She knew that they had been using pinky packs ever since they had become friends their freshman year, and of course there was always at least one promise they had to keep each week along with a brand new one. "I promise Mr. Dice." She said joking and being serious all at the same time of course, and connecting her pinky with his own. Haley and her were also really good friends; it's just she didn't know that Essie helped Craig with his homework all of the time.
"Well, your the weirdest dude I know and do you see me complaining?" She of course meant this in a pleasent way as well, and she was just messing with him like she did almost all of the time. She always enjoyed teasing and joking with Craig; it was a lot of fun.

It was quite handy having a female best friend. Well they knew how to shop for girls and they were always good for advice, but their were always some girl issues you couldn't tell them. He dropped his hand to his side and had his first broddey expression back all day. If Haley were ever to find out about Craig and his homework, or lack of it there would be trouble. She was an A+ student whilst Craig barely scraped a C most of the time.
"Well, ! wouldn't be me and you wouldn't be you without all of our weirdness now would we?" He grinned and heard the first warning bell. "You want me to walk you to your class?" It was a gentlmen thing to do, because Craig was quite a gentlemen. Well, excpt if he was with the guys.

Having a guy best friend, and Craig especally was a really good thing since she always talked to him about things and gained a wider understanding. Of course there was the fact that she had a crush on him that she couldn't talk about here at school or to him at all really at the moment, but everything else she was straight forward with. Haley never knew about the deals that her and Craig made, but that was because they were secret keepers for each other, and they couldn't let the other person down.
"Of course, kind sir." She said joking a little bit, and he was always a gentlemen, but she didn't mind when he was playing sports with the guys either. It was just she liked Craig's personality over all.

"Excelllent." The halls were beginning to empty, Craig linked his arm with Essie's and walked her to her first class. He was a Senior and knew the school like the back of his hand. He'd gotten lost a few times during Freshman and Sophmore year butt that was all behing him now. He dropped Essie of by her classroom and hugged her goodbye. "Cya Essie and If you see Haley before me tell her I said hey!" Then he took off at a quick place to get to his class in time.

Essie smiled as he linked his arm with her's and even though she knew it wasn't right she left her feelings for him go deeper than they had been before they had been talking the other day. She just couldn't help but see back to her freshman and sophomore year trying to find their classes with Craig right by her side. It had been a great freshman year, and if anyone asked her what she regreted the most about that year she would say it would be never asking Craig out before he had been taken by Haley. "Alright cya later Craigo!" She said as she returned his hug, and then went into the classroom, and she tried to clear her mind of her thoughts of having feelings deeper than friendship for Craig.
