Haley moved her ruined coffee to one side and looked up at Rachel, "I dont know what to say, I stupidly told him I loved him and he went weird on me then I didnt see him for a few days and he just seems so distant I think he likes someone else" she didnt say that she thought it was Beth after all Beth was a friend at least she thought she was.

Watching her friend with both eyes, Rachel knew there had to be something wrong. She'd heard the story from Craig earlier that week, but there were always two sides to the story. This was Haleys, "Craig like someone else?" Rachel questioned hearing her theory, "Well its a possibility I guess...But he wouldnt cheat on you. You know that right Hales?" It didnt sound at all like the right thing to say, but Rachel knew Craig just as well as she did, and she knew hed never do that.

"I dont know maybe im being stupid but I cant shake these feelings..." she sighed and put her head in her hands. "Everythings so messed up Rae..." she moaned "I know he wouldnt cheat...at least I hope I know him, I just....I dont know if I can handle him breaking up with me..."

Looking from her friend and then slowely moving her eyes around the cafe, Rachel spotted Karen watching the two girls chatting. Giving a faint smile, Rachel was having trouble trying to convince her friend. "Hales, can I be totally honest with you about something? Like without you getting mad at me or Craig?" She probably thought she was going to confess something but she only wanted to tell her of their conversation. Reassure her that this was just as hard for Craig as it was for her.

Haley looked up at her friend with a look of confusion and fear, "what...Rae whats going on?" she started to panic, did Rachel know something was there more to Haleys feelings than just suspicion. "Do you know something...is something going on that i dont know about?.."

"No no no, its nothing like that. I swear on it," Rachel was quick to reply, not wanting her friend to get the wrong idea, "Its just, Craig and I met up after school the other day, well not really, we just kinda bumped into eachother and hung out for half an hour, but thats not the point. The point is that even though you may not think he cares, hes hurting just as much as you Haley. Believe it or not, he doesn't know what to do about you and him." She looked her friend in the eye, her facial features soft and sincere, "Craig is my best friend apart from you Hales, and i've never seen him so lost in his life. So...If he does tell you something, I know it may hurt but could you at least try to level with him?" The last part was a request on both their behalfs. She loved the two of them like family, so it was a difficult position for her to be in, not wanting to choose sides or anything.

"I guess...I just...its hard...hard to say goodbye, two years we've been together and he means so much to me and I dont know if I can be friends so it feels like im losing him..." she grabbed a napkin off the stand on the table and wiped her eyes.
She sighed and pulled her hair back into a ponytail behind her head, "I know how you feel being put in the middle Rae and im sorry its not fair on you, thank you for listening though..." she didnt want to make Rae feel uncomfortable but it was hard not being able to talk to anyone about what was going on in her head and her heart.

Its not like Rachel knew exactly what Haley was feeling, but she did have experience in the same department. Not just with Craig but with being friends. It was all too familiar to her at first, and it was never easy talking about it, but she dealt with it none the less.
With Craig, Jeremy and almost any guy she had dated, things had ended in nothing less than a 'just friends,' relationship. Craig and her had decided it, Jeremy and her had decided. It just seemed as though Rachel never had any luck in the dating department.
In fact, talking to Haley about any of this was harder than ever on her. What with her past with Craig, her friendship with Haley, the talk about being just friends and now being caught in the middle of the two. It just seemed all too much.
"Well I...I can't say I know how you feel, because i've never really been to that point with any guy, but its really no problem Haley. Really..." Rachel said trying to smile as best she could.

Haley simply sighed and looked down at her hands as she began tearing at a napkin uncomfortably. She let the pieces of the paper towel fall onto the table like snow, she glanced out of the window and as if cursed she saw couples everywhere. Young teens cuddling on benches, old couples walking along hand in hand it was almost as if it was being rubbed in her face.
Haley got up suddenly and stepped out from behind the table, "Im sorry Rae...I cant do this I need to go home..." she felt her eyes filling with tears agains as she rushed for the door.

There was no point in going after Haley. Rachel had already seen how tough it was to convince her that she'd be fine and that Craig wasn't cheating on her, so trying to get her to sit back in the cafe while other couples entered and exited, would be more of a challenge that neither of them wanted to deal with.
Was had been done was done. If Rachel could have wished for one thing, that night she went out with Luke and saw the shooting stars, it would have been to make every one of her friends happy. But a girl can only dream right?
